Mexico Carnival & Festivals Guide

Mexico's carnivals don't have the global fame of Rio's, but they're enormous, joyful and far less expensive.

Veracruz Carnival

Veracruz claims the oldest carnival in the Americas. Six days of parades, music and street parties on the Gulf coast.

Mazatlán Carnival

Mexico's most famous carnival. Floats, fireworks and concerts along Mazatlán's malecón.

Cozumel Carnival

Smaller and more intimate than the mainland carnivals. Easy to combine with a Riviera Maya beach trip.

When to go

All three happen in the week leading up to Ash Wednesday (late February or early March).
