Cancún

Cancún is Mexico's premier Caribbean beach resort — white sand, turquoise water, and all-inclusive resorts lining the beach. It's the gateway to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the Maya Riviera, and the cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula. Built from a small fishing village in the 1970s, it's now one of Mexico's most visited destinations.

The Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) stretches 25km along the beach with mega-resorts and nightclubs. Downtown Cancún is a grid of practical shopping streets where locals actually live. Nearby day trips include Playa del Carmen, Tulum ruins, Xel-Há natural park, and cenote swimming.
