Oaxaca

Oaxaca City is the cultural capital of Mexico — a bohemian mountain town famous for indigenous art, exceptional food, colonial architecture, and craft traditions. The city sits at 1,550 metres in a valley surrounded by mountains. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Mexico's most vibrant places.

Oaxaca is home to dozens of indigenous ethnic groups. The central zócalo (plaza) is surrounded by colonial buildings, galleries, and restaurants. Markets overflow with local crafts, textiles, and chocolate. Nearby are ancient archaeological sites, mountain villages, and artisan workshops. This is Mexico's creative heart.
