Tipping in Mexico — A Practical Guide

Tipping in Mexico is similar to the US but smaller — and not expected everywhere.

Restaurants

10–15% in restaurants. Check the bill first — some tourist places add servicio incluido.

Hotels

  • Bellboy: 20–50 pesos per bag
  • Housekeeping: 30–50 pesos per night
  • Concierge: 100–200 pesos for real help

Taxis

Tipping is not expected in regular taxis. Round up the fare. Uber drivers can be tipped via the app for great service.

Tour guides

100–200 pesos per person on a half-day tour, 200–400 for a full day.

When NOT to tip

Government employees, market vendors, and corner-store owners are NOT tipped.
