Booking the appointment
Most consulates use the MEXITEL system. Slots open weeks (sometimes months) in advance. Check at midnight local time when new slots release.
Documents
- Passport (original + copies of every page)
- Application form (printed and signed)
- Bank statements (6 or 12 months depending on consulate)
- Passport-style photos
- Application fee (cash or card depending on consulate)
What to wear
Smart casual is fine. The consulate is a formal setting but not a job interview. No flip-flops or shorts.
The interview
Short and friendly in most consulates. They check your documents, take your photo, and process the visa. You leave with a 6-month entry stamp in your passport.
After approval
You have 6 months to enter Mexico. Within 30 days of arrival, you must exchange the stamp for the Temporary Resident card at INM.
