Why 2 weeks works

Two weeks lets you cover Mexico's three cultural worlds without rushing: central Mexico (CDMX), the indigenous south (Oaxaca), and the Mayan east (Yucatán + Quintana Roo).

The route

Mexico City → Oaxaca → Mérida → Tulum, then fly home from Cancún. All internal flights are cheap (often under $80).

Days 1–4: Mexico City

Same as the 1-week itinerary plus a day for Puebla or Tepoztlán.

Days 5–7: Oaxaca

Fly to Oaxaca. Three days lets you do the city, Hierve el Agua, AND a mezcal village day.

Days 8–10: Yucatán inland

Fly to Mérida. Use it as a base for Uxmal, Izamal and a slower visit to Chichén Itzá (early morning to beat the crowds).

Stay in Mérida's centro — the colonial mansions are stunning and many are now boutique hotels.

Days 11–14: Caribbean coast

Drive or ADO bus from Mérida to Tulum (4 hours). Spend three nights on the coast — beach, ruins, cenotes — then fly home from Cancún airport (90 min north).

Budget

Realistic mid-range budget for 14 days: $2,000–3,200 per person excluding international flights.
