Remote Work in Mexico

Mexico is one of the world's top digital nomad destinations — same time zones as the US, fast internet, and affordable.

Why Mexico

Same time zones as the US, fiber internet in every major city, low cost of living, friendly visa rules, great food and an established expat community.

Best cities

  • Mexico City — biggest scene, highest cost
  • Playa del Carmen — beach + nomads + flights to Cancún
  • Tulum — Instagram capital, expensive, sketchier internet
  • Mérida — quiet, safe, increasingly popular
  • Oaxaca — culture-first, cheaper

Internet

Fiber 100–500 Mbps is standard in CDMX, Mérida, Playa del Carmen, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Tulum and smaller towns can be slower and patchier.

Time zones

Mexico City is on Central Time (CT). The Yucatán is on Eastern Time (ET) since 2023. Baja California Norte is on Pacific Time (PT).

Visas

Most nomads use a Temporary Resident visa (see our digital nomad visa guide).
